“Because energy is neither created nor destroyed, my heart must be clear as I transition from one season to the next.”
Those were the words that my heart whispered last week as I was preparing my entire life for its next season. (While I promise that I will share what I mean, I am using discretion right now.) So often in Christianity, we hear that we cannot operate on energy and vibes. Still, as someone who is a lover of both science and Jesus, I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge that energy is real and its properties are finite.
According to the first law of thermodynamics, energy can neither be created nor destroyed and simply moves from one entity to another. One could also combine Newton’s Laws of Physics to best understand how this law of energy works. For example, if we step outside and see a soccer ball on the field, we know that it will not move unless someone comes and moves/kicks it. Well, let’s imagine that you decide to run up to the ball and then kick it. The energy and force that you had within you transferred to the soccer ball the moment your foot made contact with the ball. The energy that was once in you now resides in the ball, causing the ball to travel a certain distance based on the force that you exerted when you kicked it. Energy was transferred because energy exists within us.
To my fellow Christians, energy is real. Science and Christianity can coexist.
With that established, let’s continue. 🙂
Much like a calendar year, we experience different seasons in our lives. Some seasons bring immense joy, while others bring sadness. Some seasons bring phenomenal blessings, while others bring invaluable lessons. However, unlike the calendar, we do not know which season is coming next or how long each season will last. We live at the will of our Lord and Savior, who guides our hearts and leads our lives. While we can commune with God and discern what He may next for us, we never truly know when that “next” will begin or what that season will even look like. Our lives operate as a beautiful symphony of trust in our God. It can be very scary, but the truth is, we should always trust the Manufacturer, as they know better than anyone how something is supposed to work.
As for me, I did commune with God, and I do recognize that the season of my life where I was consumed with fear, doubt, and confusion has come to an end. I am entering a season where I am standing on my own two feet- with God’s help- and I am finally learning to live a life that is not contingent on the desires of others. Finally, I do not hear the voices of my mother, my sister, my friends, or society screaming in my ears; all I hear is the voice of my Abba, and even that is a soft, still voice. This next season will stretch me; it will cause me to sincerely question what I have been led to believe for the first 39.5 years of my life. This season may be alarming to others because the old Michelle that they once knew has faded into oblivion, and what remains is the unmasked Michelle who does not aim to please the world. Yeah, the masses should be concerned…
So, as I transition from where I am to where I am going, I have to ensure that my energy is right. The pain and the tears that ruled my previous seasons are not welcome in this next season. My propensity to bend to the wishes of others, say YES to everything presented to me, and give more of my time than I ever had to give- those are all costs that are too expensive for me to pay anymore. Resentment, bitterness, and anger are also energies that I cannot carry with me into this next season. Yes, there is pain from my past, but with the help of my therapists and psychiatrist, I am leaving that pain where it belongs and giving it no more control over my future. From bondage to freedom- this next will be my best season!
Beloved, believe me when I say that you possess energy that you carry with you into every room that you enter and every season of your life. It is my prayer that as you move about, you check that energy to make sure that what you carry not only glorifies God, but also creates an atmosphere where growth can occur. Traveling with negative and/or nasty energy will only create more environments of negativity and contempt. Call it a “positive attitude” if you want, but attitudes aren’t transferable- energy is.
God’s next will be His best yet, so let’s pray every step of the way and move with intentionality.
Protect your energy, Sweet Friend.
Be blessed.
