Graced to Rest

The scariest place to be is in a state of complacency.

As another season in my life comes to an end, my heart pauses to reflect on the blessings and lessons of seasons passed. This is something that I’m sure I have done in the past, but today I feel especially reflective as I enter what I believe God has designated as a season of rest.

Raise your hand if your favorite time of day is the moment when you can finally sink into the waiting and welcoming arms of your bed? Due to horrible allergies, I made the decision back in 2014 to shower every night before bed so that I can wash off all of the germs and dirt for the day. I’m not knocking anyone else’s habits, but for me, showering at night means the attacking allergens that ambush me without regard during the day will have no access to me as I sleep peacefully. After a steaming hot shower, I brush my teeth, apply copious amounts of lotion, and then slide into bed… right after I journal and say my prayers. After a long day, my bed greets me like a long-lost lover, luring me into a beautiful dance of wits and passion to see who will ultimately be deemed the victor. My bed wins every time, knowing exactly how to position itself to secure victory over my exhausted body.

If you are like me, this is the best time of your day. This moment right here when you can either erase the pain of the day or continue the beauty of the day in your dreams, this is the moment that your body has been waiting for- that wonderful moment of rest.

And this is the moment that I believe I am entering right now. Right now I feel that God is washing away the dirt and grime of my day and allowing me to slip into a peaceful slumber, a state of rest for whatever He plans to do next.

Beloved, before God does His next major move in your life, He needs you to rest. After a busy day, rest allows us to restore our energy before another day. Likewise, rest right now will allow you to reflect on where God has brought you from before He takes you to your next.

In this year of God’s abundant grace, I recognize that God has graced us for many wonderful things like Pray, Be well, Journey, to endure the Weak Spots… and now, rest.

Be blessed.
