Jane of all trades

Daily writing prompt
What are you good at?

The saying goes, “Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentimes better than the master of one,” originated in 1612 in the “Essays and Characters of a Prison” by English writer Geffray Mynshul. However, when I always heard that growing up, that last part was never added.

The truth is, my ADHD leads me to believe that I am very good at a lot of things. I find something that interests me and for a moment, I am very committed to that item. As such, I have accumulated many skills along the years that I feel make me a Jane- not Jack- of all trades.

Yes, I can braid and cornrow hair.
Yes, I can cook and bake a little.
Yes, I can (in theory only) change a tire or my car’s oil.
Yes, I can type really well.
Yes, I can take amazing photographs.
Yes, I can do so many things… but what am I good at?

The truth is, that which I am good at- I mean really good at- are skills that I have not chosen to market.

I am good at loving others.
I am good at celebrating my loved ones.
I am good at completely ignoring my body’s calls for rest. (Did you read my #MondayMessage today? Click HERE to read.)
I am good at starting new things (though not the best at finishing them).
I am good at taking a brief prompt and unnecessarily elaborating as to keep my audience’s attention. 🙂

Yet in my humble opinion, I am good at taking the pain that has consumed me and using it to bless others. It is my prayer that my writings, my merch (click HERE to shop), and my site all help others see that healing is possible.
