And that’s when I realized that I needed to mind my own business.
On Saturday morning, before heading to a speaking engagement, I decided to swing by my job to see if I could get inside the school to get some items that I had forgotten to get the day before. It was raining outside, so I had my headlights and wiper blades on. Once I parked at the school, I turned my lights off before turning off my car to run inside. I grabbed the cards, a bottle of water, and some paper bowls and then dashed to my car. I got in my car, inserted the key to turn over the ignition, and safely drove away. At the light, I pulled up behind a car that seemed hesitant to make the legal right turn. To myself, I wondered why the person was not turning. When they finally turned, I then noticed that they were not only driving slowly, but that the person did not have their headlights on. I instantly thought, “headlights are mandatory in Maryland when wiper blades are in use,” but then I noticed that the person didn’t even have on their wiper blades on. By this time, I was judging this person six ways from Sunday! I had served as this person’s judge and jury, condemning them for not using basic driving skills. It wasn’t until I got on the highway that I looked down at my control panel, realizing that my own headlights were not on.
Wow. There I was, condemning this person, all while I, too, was in the wrong. I was humbled by God in that moment.
Beloved, today’s message is two-fold:
- Create opportunities where God can speak to you. Silence the world and still your heart so that you can hear God’s still, soft voice. He ALWAYS wants to talk to you but you have to be open to hearing Him!
- Do not get so distracted by what other people are doing (right or wrong), that you lose sight of what you are doing. If we are too busy looking at the actions of others, we become unable to see both what we are doing AND what God is doing in our lives. Focus on God and focus on YOU.
I love you so much and I want God’s very best for you, Sweet Friend! So it’s time to get tunnel vision (pun intended) and focus on your individual relationship with God. Eyes forward.
Be blessed.
