Beloved, in the words of every Black preacher across America, “I won’t be before you long today.” In fact, I just want to tell you a quick little story, and then I will be on my way. Ready? Let’s go!

Last month, I went to both J.C. Penney and Victoria’s Secret in the quest of a few new bras. I knew that I needed them, but I was trying to wait until I had lost 25 pounds before buying new ones. Yet as my old and no longer faithful bras kept breaking/tearing, one right after another, I knew it was time to go to the store.

So, one Saturday morning, I got up and decided to go to the mall. I parked at J.C. Penney, thinking that I would just cut through the store to get to my real destination- Victoria’s Secret- but as I walked through, I saw SALE signs and decided to just take a peek. About 30 minutes and one thousand steps later, I had three new bras from both stores, and I was headed home.

After trying on all of the bras at home, I marveled at how well-supported and upright my breasts appeared to be. The new bras changed not only the positioning of my breasts but also my posture and stature.

I felt secure.
I felt supported.
I felt safe.

A good bra can have you feeling like a brand new person!

Well Beloved, the same is true for prayer. You see, just as there is power in a bra to change a woman’s posture, there is power in prayer to change the circumstances in our lives. One fact about life that I had to learn the hard way is that there is nothing too hard for our God to do. When we go before God in prayer, we must be willing to let go of the weight that we carry and let Him work. Just like I can’t hold my breasts in my hands and expect a bra to do its job, we cannot hold onto our concerns and expect God to heal us.

Healing has ALWAYS been the goal, and there is POWER in prayer.

There is POWER to deliver. (2 Kings 19:19)
There is POWER to heal the sick. (The Bible has MANY examples, but check out Mark 5:23)
There is POWER to behold God’s glory. (Exodus 33:18)

When you are feeling the limitations of your humanity, remember that there is POWER, and it’s just a prayer away.
